Introduction

e-Catalunya provides a virtual meeting point for communities formed by the Catalan public administration staff and other professionals who have need for communication and networking.

The project is an initiative of the Government of Catalonia to improve efficiency in delivering public services to citizens. With tools for collaboration of the social Internet, they can participate, share knowledge, promote learning and collaboration.

What is it for?

Each of these communities interacts by means of its own portal, which is either public or private (i.e. for registered members only). To participate, there are tools such as blogs, forums, file containers, wikis, calendars, and so on. These portals also include utilities like mailing lists, RSS feeds, and automatic news alerts to allow group members to communicate with one another.

Portal members can make additions to the tools, respond to and comment on contributions made by others, upload and download files, edit shared documents and e-mail the whole community. Each portal is administrated by its own personnel who intervene where necessary to encourage involvement and organise the knowledge produced.

What can you do at e-Catalunya?

  • Work together, expound, make yourself known, seek out information, establish relationships of trust with colleagues, make recommendations and object. Basically communicate with other professionals in your field and with those who share your interests.
  • Gain access to the production of new content and knowledge generated directly by people and/or groups and, at the same time, make a contribution to that knowledge.
  • Get involved in public participation initiatives, give your opinion, and make your voice heard.
  • Identify trends, reach consensus, start-up and consolidate projects.
